Description

★ An exceptionally complete quarter stater from the Baiocassi ★

NORTHWEST GAUL. Baiocassi. Late 2nd to mid 1st century BC. Quarter Stater (Electrum, 13 mm, 1.91 g, 10 h), 'aux sangliers' type. Celticized head of Apollo to right, surmounted by a boar and with strings of pearls coming out of his own head. Rev. Devolved charioteer, driving cart drawn by a centaur to left, holding reins with his right hand and long branch ending in a vexillum-like banner in his left; below, boar standing right. DT 2256. LT 6963. SLM 209. Rare. An exceptionally complete example struck on a very broad flan. Light scratch on the obverse and with a thin flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.
