Description

Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.79 g, 9 h), military mint traveling with Caesar in Illyria (Apollonia?), early to mid 48. Diademed female head (Clementia?) to right, wearing oak wreath, TII. Rev. CAESAR Trophy of Gallic arms; oval shield to left, axe surmounted by animal’s head to right. Babelon (Julia) 26. Crawford 452/2. RBW -. Sydenham 1009. Somewhat corroded, otherwise, very fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed in Ticino from the 1970s to 2000s.
