CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 332-302 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.90 g, 3 h), Philis..., magistrate. Nude rider on horse galloping to right, stabbing with spear held in his right hand and holding two other spears and shield with his left; below, ΦI. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, placing his right hand on the dolphin and holding distaff in his left; to right, eagle with closed wings standing left; below, waves. Fischer-Bossert 1084. HN Italy 933. Vlasto 574. Lustrous and very attractive. Minor area of weakness on the obverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
