Description

Constantine VI & Irene, 780-797. Solidus (Gold, 20 mm, 4.47 g, 5 h), Constantinopolis, 780-790. S IRIҺI AVΓ mITRI AV Crowned busts of Constantine VI, beardless, wearing chlamys and holding globus cruciger in his right hand, on the left, and Irene, wearing loros and holding globus cruciger in her right hand and cruciform scepter in her left, on the right; between their heads, cross and pellet. Rev. CONҺSTAҺTҺOS CA b' b' Leo III, Constantine V and Leo IV seated facing, each wearing crown surmounted by cross and chlamys. DOC 1. SB 1593. Struck from slightly worn dies as usual, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
