★ A lovely adventus-'aureus' of Probus ★
UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 19 mm, 4.00 g, 1 h), 'Probus Group E'. Imitating Probus, 276-282. MCM D∾II D[..]OD ∾bNVC Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Probus to left, holding spear over his right shoulder and shield on his left. Rev. II D Ւ EH SNII / C IC Probus on horseback to right, his right hand outstretched and holding wreath in his left. Cf. Calicó 4140-4143 (for reverse prototypes). Holed, otherwise, good very fine.

The prototype for this lovely issue was an aureus showing an adventus, the triumphal arrival of an emperor in a military camp or city.
