Description

UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Quinarius' (Gold, 14 mm, 2.75 g, 11 h), 'Derived Gordian Group A'. NΛMXNNИ[...]IIYNYNΛVTN Bare imperial head to right (or a draped bust?). Rev. VNVNVN ΛYVΛ Eagle standing right, wings spread and head to left. Aurum Barbarorum I, -, cf. 803 (head to left and legible legends). Some scrapes and with the original suspension loop broken off, otherwise, fine.

The reverse of this little 'quinarius' was copied from the Consecration-prototypes of the 'Gordian Group' (Aurum Barbarorum I, 801-802).
