Description

★ Pedigreed to 1909 ★

THESSALY. Lamia. Circa 360s-350s BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 17 mm, 2.85 g, 12 h). Head of Dionysos to left, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΛΑΜΙΕ-ΩΝ Amphora with tall handles; above, ivy leaf; to right, prochous with handle to right; all within shallow circular incuse. BCD Thessaly I 1089 ( same obverse die ). BCD Thessaly II 123-124. Georgiou 1, 8. Jameson 1082. Traité IV, 456, pl. CCLXXXVII, 19. Beautifully toned and with a very old pedigree. The reverse somewhat double struck, otherwise, good very fine.
