Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Pyrrhos, 278-276 BC. AE (Bronze, 25 mm, 12.20 g, 5 h). ΣYPAKOΣIΩN Head of Herakles to left, wearing lion skin headdress; to right, club. Rev. Athena Promachos advancing right, holding thunderbolt in her right hand and shield in her left; to left, wreath. CNS II 177. HGC 2, 1450. SNG ANS 845. SNG Copenhagen 812. A lovely coin with an attractive olive green patina. Minor smoothing, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
