Description

★ Pedigreed to 1989 ★

CELTIC, Lower Danube. Uncertain tribe. 3rd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 16.65 g, 11 h), imitating Alexander III and Philip III of Macedon. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΛΛIEIΠmEIOΛ - ΠmImΛm Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, two monograms; below throne, Ζ. OTA pl. 44, 579, 9 = Lanz 899. Beautifully toned and very well struck, a lovely example. Good very fine.
