Description

CELTIC, Carpathian region. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 13.64 g, 9 h), 'Y auf Postament' type. Imitating Audoleon. Celticized laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. Celticized horseman to right with imitative legend around; below horse, Y on pediment (imitative Audoleon monogram); below foreleg, Π. Dembski 1339. Flesche 561. Lanz 721 ( same obverse die ). OTA 422/1 (same dies ). Beautifully toned and boldly struck on a full flan. Minor metal flaw on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
