Description

CELTIC, Carpathian region. Uncertain tribe. Circa 3rd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 14.14 g, 10 h), 'Römische Ziffern' type. Imitating Philip II of Macedon. Laureate head of Zeus to left. Rev. Young jockey, holding reins in his right hand and palm frond in his left, riding horse to left; above V IΛ III; before, Δ; below, V. Dembski -. Flesche 673 ( same dies ). Lanz -. OTA -. Preda -. SLM -. Numismatik Lanz Auction 123 (2005), 12 ( same dies ). Very rare. Nicely toned and unusually complete. Minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
