CELTIC, Central Europe. Vindelici. 1st century BC. 1/4 Stater (Gold, 12 mm, 1.88 g), 'Rolltier' type. Convex surface with a dragon-like animal with the body of a serpent ('Rolltier') rolled up to left. Rev. Three pellets within torque with pellet at each end; all within shallow incuse. Dembski -. Flesche 288. Karl 236. LT -. SLM 1063. Very rare in this denomination. A particularly charming example. Minor areas of weakness, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed over two generations and from the collection of T. Voltz, Auctiones 25, 19 June 1995, 1459, ex Ratto, 4 April 1927, 84 (‘collection d’un savant’).
