Description

CELTIC, Central Europe. Vindelici. 1st century BC. Quinarius (Silver, 15 mm, 1.77 g), 'Kreuzquinar mit Lyra' type. Male head with curly hair to right. Rev. Cross with two lyres and two Λ in opposite quarters. Flesche -. Gorny & Mosch 118 (2002), 1005 ( same obverse die ). LT -. SLM -. Extremely rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. The obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, good very fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed over two generations.

The obverse of this interesting issue, especially the hair style, is reminiscent of the drachms of the Volcae-Arecomici with a male head with elaborate hair and African features to the left.
