Description

★ Pedigreed to 1951 ★

CELTIC, Central Gaul. Bituriges Cubi or Lemovices. 2nd century BC. 1/4 Stater (Gold, 14 mm, 1.94 g, 2 h), 'au signe en forme de joug' type. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. Celticized charioteer to right, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left; exergue in the forme of a yoke. DT 3336. LT 6424. Very rare. A beautiful and lightly toned example. Scratches below the horse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed over two generations, ex Leu 79, 31 October 2000, 98, from the collection of T. Voltz, Auctiones 25, 19 June 1995, 1178 and that of G. Motte, Bourgey, 12 November 1951, 6.
