Description

★ An extremely rare 1/4 stater from the Aedui ★

CELTIC, Central Gaul. Aedui. 2nd century BC. 1/4 Stater (Gold, 14 mm, 1.83 g, 9 h), 'type de Beaune'. Celticized laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. Celticized charioteer driving biga to right, holding reins in his left hand and kentron in his right; below the horse, triskeles. DT 3042A. SLM -, cf. 203 (differing obverse and with a star on the reverse). An extremely rare variety of a rare issue. Areas of weakness on the obverse and with faint scratches, otherwise, good very fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed over two generations.
