★ A very rare 1/4 stater from the Helvetii ★
CELTIC, Central Europe. Helvetii. Late 2nd to early 1st century BC. 1/4 Stater (Gold, 14 mm, 1.83 g, 11 h), 'au croissant' type. Celticized laureate head of Apollo to right within crescent border. Rev. Celticized charioteer driving biga to left; before, 'palm' frond; below, crescent ornament; all within shallow incuse. Allen, SNR 53 (1974), -, cf. pl. 16, 229-230 (no palm frond). DT -, cf. 3076 (differing obverse). HMZ -. LT -, cf. 8928 (no palm frond). SLM -. An extremely rare variety of a very rare type. Beautifully toned and well struck. A few light scratches, otherwise, very fine.
