Description

INDIA, Yaudheya. Circa 3rd-4th century. AE (Bronze, 25 mm, 10.84 g, 1 h). YAUDHEYA GANASA JAYA (in Brahmi) Karttikeya standing facing, holding spear in his right hand; at his feet to right, rooster standing right. Rev. Devasena (consort of Karttikeya) standing facing, head to left, holding taurine in her right hand and placing her left on her hip. MACW 4707-4710. Very fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

The Yaudheya were a dreaded tribe of warriors worshipping Karttikeya, the Hindu god of war, who is depicted on the obverse of this coin.
