The Traikutaka kings ruled in southern Gujarat and Maharashtra as the power of the Western Kshatrapas began to recede. Their name derives from the word for a three-peaked mountain ('Tri-kuta), the sacred hill which was created by three goddesses to defeat evil in the world and is shown on the reverse of this coin.
