Description

★ An extremely obscure North African mint ★

BYZACIUM. Alipota. Late 1st century BC. AE (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.13 g, 12 h). Head of Hermes to left, wearing winged petasos. Rev. 𐤏𐤋𐤐𐤕𐤀 - 𐤀𐤕 (' 'lpt' - 't ' in Neo-Punic) Kerykeion. MAA 62 corr. (obverse described as female head). SNG Copenhagen 49 corr. (obverse described as female head). Of the highest rarity. An attractive example of this interesting issue from an extremely obscure North African mint. Somewhat rough and with light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
