SICILY. Messana. Circa mid 4th century BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 15 mm, 2.00 g, 6 h). Head of Hephaistos to right, wearing conical pilos. Rev. Monogram of ME within wreath of grain ears. BCD Peloponnesos 1331.1 ( this coin, but as Methana in Argolis). G. Gargano, SNR 87 (2008), p. 29 and fig. 6 ( this coin, but as mercenary issue from Sicily or Bruttium). Extremely rare. Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.
