Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 302-290 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.87 g, 7 h), Dai... and Phi..., magistrates. Nude rider on horse galloping to right, stabbing with spear held in his right hand and holding two other spears and shield in his left; below, ΔAI. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding trident in his right hand and shield decorated with a hippocamp in his left; to left, [Φ]I; below dolphin, murex shell. Fischer-Bossert 1021 (V391/R787). HN Italy 935. Vlasto 596. A lovely example. Very fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed in the 1970s and privately acquired from Numismatica Arethusa.
