Description

CELTIC, Lower Danube. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd century BC. Drachm (Silver, 19 mm, 2.68 g, 9 h), imitating Philip III of Macedon. Celticized head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. Celticized Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; below throne, Λ; to left, monogram. Dembski 1487 var. (differing monogram). Flesche -. Lanz 940 var. (differing monogram). OTA -. Nicely toned. Very fine.
