★ An exceptional bronze from Morgantina ★
SICILY. Morgantina. The Hispani, mid 2nd century BC. AE (Bronze, 21 mm, 6.59 g, 11 h). Head of Minerva to left, wearing crested Corinthian helmet; above, N. Rev. HISPANORVM Helmeted cavalryman charging right on horseback, holding couched lance in his right hand. CNS III, 2. SNG ANS 471-4. Sharply struck and in exceptional condition for the issue. Nearly extremely fine.

The Hispani were Iberian mercenaries settled in Morgantina by M. Cornelius after crushing a revolt in 211 BC.
