A Grand Cross Set of the 2nd Type (1815–1918): sash badge, 83x49 mm, in GOLD with green enameled arms and ornated, red enameled lozenges; obverse
centre with applied white enameled falcon with spreaded wings; the reverse with crowned, blue enameled centre medallion with inscription “VIGILANDO
ASCENDIMUS” within a thick laurel wreath; upper loop chiselled as acanthus leaves, hinged crown with link ring and thin, original suspension ring; with the
original, crimson-red sash; breast star, 86 mm, with silver rays; gilt-silver centre with green enameled cross; centre medallion with applied, white enameled
falcon, a chiselled intermediate border, blue enamelled outer circlet with the order’s motto “VIGILANDO ASCENDIMUS” in gold lettering, enclosed within a
chiselled outer ring; the reverse with 4 nuts, centre disc struck with the maker’s mark “TH MÜLLER HOF-JUWELIER WEIMAR”; vertical pin, this struck with
the French “swan” mark for pieces passed in auction.
A rare group dating from the end of 19th Century in very fine condition; one of the most prestigious and attractive orders of the former German states. I RR!
