An outstanding 1st Class Star of the Order with flat, rounded rays and thin, polished border in the style of the early stars of the Sardinian Order of St. Maurice and Lazarus; 85 mm, golden centre medallion, surely of old Austrian
manufacture, with the enameled Lombardic crown on pebbled, convex ground within blue enameled outer circlet nearing the Order’s motto “AVITA ET AUCTA” in golden, chiseled lettering, the whole, surrounded by an inner and outer, chiseled, golden border; the reverse fitted with vertical pin, this, struck with silver assay mark. A rare star, dating from 1860-70 ca. made according to the taste of the original customer, surely a high-ranking dignitary from the Kingdom of Sardinia; excellent condition. I
