London: Taylor & Walton, 1840. 8vo, later maroon leather; spine lettered in gilt. xiv, (2), 420, 8 pages; text illustrations; 17 lithographic and engraved plates. Ex Royal Numismatic Society Library. London, 1846. 8vo, original blue cloth, gilt. iv, (2), 203 (1) pages; 24 engraved plates. Plates foxed, else fine. The 1832 edition of the Manual “was Akerman’s first numismatic book and for the next forty years he was a tireless promoter of British numismatics” (Manville 295). The 1840 edition was greatly expanded. The third work was intended to be only the first volume in what the author saw as a series on ancient coins arranged according to Pellerin and Eckhel. It was, unfortunately, the only volume published.
