The fine plates were prepared by Gutekunst, a famous early American photographer who was also responsible for the famous Maris New Jersey plate. The first plate depicts ancient coins; the second illustrates foreign and American coins and medals; and the last two depict choice large cents from the Chapmans' own collection.
