MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AR tetradrachm (28mm, 17.08 gm, 12h). NGC Choice AU S 5/5 - 5/5, Fine Style. Posthumous issue of uncertain mint in western Asia Minor, ca. 323-280 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left on backless throne with struts in the form of an X, right leg drawn back, feet on stool, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; cult image right on base in left field. Price 2720. Strongly struck from dies of breathtaking style. One of the most attractive portraits this cataloger has seen in the past 20 years for Macedonian tetradrachms.
