Description

MACEDON. Acanthus. Ca. 470-430 BC. AR tetradrachm (30mm, 17.48 gm). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. Lion springing right, attacking bull kneeling to left with raised head, and biting into his hind quarters; Θ above, stylized acanthus flower below dotted exergual line / Quadripartite incuse square, the interior compartments roughly granulated. SNG ANS 10. Desnaux 53. Attractively struck on an oversized flan.
