People's Republic brass Proof Panda Yuan 1985 PR66 Cameo NGC, Shanghai mint, Cheng-pg. 28, 7, CC-81, PAN-28A. Mintage: 50. One of the great Panda series rarities, and the first example of the type that we have handled, struck to a minutely small figure despite an original planned mintage of 1,000 pieces. Presently one of only three issues designated as "Rare" by the China Pricepedia, this specimen boasts a vivid cameo contrast with clear cartwheel luster in the central frosted devices, which possess a mildly rose-gold hue and only the most minor evidence of haziness, reminding the viewer that this issue appeared before the predominance of the major third-party grading services in the Chinese market. This lot comes complete with its original Shanghai mint cardboard holder.
