Sinkiang gold Fantasy Tael ND MS62 NGC, KM-Unl., cf. L&M-813 (for circulation issue in silver), Kann-B106. An impressive gold striking clearly produced from very similar dies used to mint the circulating silver issues, though with the addition of several concentric rings on the reverse, all elements of the design fully struck-up in expert style with a lightly cupric hue to the surfaces. Some light hairlines, far from unusual for these fantasy issues stemming from older collections, are noted only for the sake of completeness, appearing otherwise in keeping with the assigned designation. Seemingly the only certified example of the type and the only piece we can locate having come to auction in the past decade, and missing from both the Kann and Goodman collections, originally achieving a hammer of $10,000 in Ponterio & Associates' December 2010 Hong Kong sale. Ex. Ponterio & Associates Hong Kong Auction 156 (3 December 2010, Lot 1084); NGSA Auction #5 (December 2008)
