"Execution of Archbishop Laud" silver Medal 1644 AU (harshly cleaned), Eimer-145, MI-I-315/147. 58mm. Edge plain. By John Roettier. Struck in c. 1680, this medal commemorates the trial and execution of the Archbishop of Canterbury William Laud in 1645. Boldly rendered in high relief with a pale gold patina; the reverse is notable for showing a large pre-fire view of London. The surfaces show numerous hairlines, an edge knock at 3 o'clock on the obverse and an area of damage at 2 o'clock at the periphery. An attractive medal demonstrating talented engraving.
