Description

ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 455-440 BC. AR tetradrachm (24mm, 17.20 gm, 7h). NGC MS 5/5 - 2/5, test cut. Early transitional issue. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet ornamented with three laurel leaves and vine scroll / ΑΘΕ, owl standing right, head facing, olive sprig and crescent moon behind, all within incuse square. Starr Group V.A, series 3. HGC 4, 1597. Bold, high relief strike with some die rust on the nose.
