Philip IV gold Cob 4 Escudos 1645/4 MD-+V AU Details (Edge Filing) NGC, Madrid mint, cf. KM56.1 (for type), cf. Cal-1858 (unlisted overdate), Oro Macuquino-44 (1 known, this coin plated). 13.16gm. An eye-catching survivor from Philip IV's Spanish gold Cobs, presenting a razor-sharp cross and very bold features, with little to no signs of handling and the grade qualifier virtually unnoticeable. The overdate, though slightly off-flan, is easily discernible, adding to this piece's utter rarity. Presumably Unique, the only comparison type we could locate was single 1645 MD-B (different assayer and no overdate), the Caballero de Las Yndias example, which fetched high bids when offered at auction. A piece for advanced gold Cob collectors. HID09801242017 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
