Ferdinand VI gold Cob 4 Escudos ND (1747-1756) F-S MS61 NGC, Santa Fe de (Bogota) mint, KM27, Cal-723, Restrepo-M96-4 (this coin), Oro Macuquino-122 (1 known, this coin). 13.40gm. A stellar representative of Ferdinand VI's seldom-seen Colombian gold Cobs. The piece, though struck on the usual compact flan, claims every major identifying feature: mintmark, assayer, denomination and a full 4-digit overdate, alongside much of the legends. The satin and gentle antique-gold toned surfaces indicate it was treasured through the decades and spared from circulation, perhaps in a wrecked chest. Unsurprisingly, its rarity and eye-appeal made Restrepo choose it as its plate-coin, a fact which certainly consolidates this as a trophy coin for gold Cob collectors.
