MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AR drachm (18mm, 4.32 gm, 1h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. Posthumous issue, Teos, ca. 310-301 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left on backless throne, left leg drawn back, feet on stool, eagle in outstretched right hand, grounded scepter in left; HΔ above ΠI monograms in left field. Price 2292 corr. (no ΠI, ΠO below throne). Price creates a bit of a conundrum with 2292 in his reference. There is a drachm with HΔ monogram in left field and ΠO below throne, however, the plate it references, Plate CXXXII shows another drachm which matches this lot. There should have been another separate catalog number for each of these drachms to have their own, but we are left with two known types and only one number to reference.
