West Friesland. Provincial "Hollandia" Ducaton (Silver Rider) 1742-Rooster Genuine NGC, KM127.1, Dav-1834. Salvaged from the "Hollandia" (sunk in 1743 off Sicily, Italy). The VOC merchant ship Hollandia set sail to Batavia on June, 1743. Lost in the fog off the Sicily Islands, it hit rocks near the Island of Annet, sinking with its entire crew and treasure. The wreck was only rediscovered in the 1970's, where over 30,000 silver coins were recovered from the recorded cargo of approximately 129,700 florins, mostly in Mexican and Bolivian coins, counting with several coveted Klippe types and "Pillar Dollars".
