Louis XV "La Dromadaire" 1/2 Ecu 1726-(COW) VF Details (Sea Salvaged) NGC, Pau mint. Salvaged from the "La Dromadaire" (sunk in 1762 off São Vicente Island, Cape Verde). The French East-India Company ship La Dromadaire ("The Camel") set sail from the Port of Lorient on February 6, 1762. Entrapped not by British privateers but by bad weather, it was carried into dangerous reefs off the island of Sao Vicente and broke in two on February 19, 1762, sinking with its entire crew and precious cargo.
