Portuguese Colony. João Prince Regent 2 Macutas 1815 VF Details (Environmental Damage) NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM47, LMB-470. Overstruck on an Angolan Macuta of Maria I & Pedro III (cf. KM20). An incredibly rare type to find without the shield re-tariff counterstamp of 1837, this large issue was produced in Brazil specifically to circulate throughout the Portuguese crown's territories in Africa. Deep espresso toning contrasts with the lighter raised devices, all balancing the host details which are quite visible in the peripheries. Very historically intriguing.
