Description

Dutch Colony. United East India Company "Java" Counterstamped Ducat ND (1753-61) MS61 PCGS, KM188, Fr-7. 3.39gm. Host: Zeeland Ducat 1753 (KM85); Counterstamp: "Java" in Arabic script, within circular indent (UNC Details). An estimated 11,450 Dutch Ducats (Holland, Utrecht, West Friesland, and Zeeland) were countermarked in Batavia with scant few survivors. Glancing at auction records, these only occasionally appear, and often with piercings or other problems, so to encounter this remarkably preserved and lustrous example is tantamount to a numismatic miracle. This is the only example certified at PCGS. HID09801242017 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
