Victoria gold 1/2 Sovereign 1855-SYDNEY XF45 PCGS, Sydney mint, KM1, Marsh-380 (R3). The 1855 Sydney 1/2 Sovereign not only stands as a notoriously challenging date in the Australian series, but is among the toughest in the entire Victorian half Sovereign collection to acquire in any meaningful condition. The present selection emerges as a remarkable straight-graded survivor from a reported mintage of only 21,000. Exhibiting balanced wear commensurate with the designation and fleeting moments of bloom glittering in the protected areas of the legends, it delights when viewed in hand. Only 12 certified examples are recorded on PCGS census, with this example sitting at the penultimate grade bested by just one AU50 piece. Privately purchased from Jaggard's in Sydney, Australia; accompanied by their flip. From the James D.
