Description

Kwangsi. Kuang-hsü copper Specimen Pattern 10 Cash ND 1905 SP63 Brown PCGS, KM-Pn1, CL-KH.01, CCC-560, Duan-2735, W-881. An extremely rare and historically-embedded emission from Kwangsi Province, found here in a covetable Choice Mint State Specimen designation. Additionally, the offering at hand is tied with only one other example within the PCGS "Top Pop" grade, out of 18 graded in totality by PCGS. NGC has a sole specimen graded, falling well below the current example at an AU55. Woodward notes that "copper 10 Cash pieces of Kwangsi Province are conspicuous, not only for their great rarity, but also for the small number of varieties issued" as "all varieties of Kwang-si coins are quite rare". Furthermore, Woodward regards this issue, "doubtless only a trial piece, it has remained unique for eight years" (page 107). The surfaces and hues present on this piece undoubtedly impress as the chocolate surfaces evolve into silver sheen when moved even slightly in the light. The handsome toning continues with pops of lemon and tangerine, elegantly accenting the legends and dragon motif. Overall, the piece at hand is sure to excite and awe even the most discerning of numismatic collectors with the opportunity to own one of the highest graded examples for the rare type.
