Kuang-hsü Pattern Dollar CD 1907 UNC Detail (Harshly Cleaned) NGC, Tientsin mint, Kann-212, L&M-20, WS-0025. A significant artifact from China's early 20th-century efforts to standardize its currency systems, which had been fragmented across various provincial coinages and weight measures. Designed as a successor to the Tai Ching Ti Kuo Tael Patterns, this series introduced a more unified Dollar standard that was pivotal in modernizing China's monetary system. The series featured coins in denominations ranging from 10 Cents to a full Dollar; this particular denomination being visually notable for its unique wave-like pattern on the obverse. Despite its innovative design, like many from this era, this obverse (reverse as holdered) was never adopted for circulation, making it a highly sought-after selection for the advanced collector of vintage Chinese Patterns.
