Order of British India, Gold and Enameled Medal "1st Class, 2nd Type" Lion in light blue enamel field surrounded by light blue enamel within a laurel wreath, crown at top. Enamel in excellent condition, light scuffs to back of badge. Accompanied by a burgundy neck ribbon of unverified origin. The Order of British India was a prestigious honor established in 1837 by the East India Company to recognize long and faithful service by native commissioned officers in the Indian Army. Recipients of this award, which was later incorporated into the British honors system, were granted the title of "Sardar Bahadur" and wore distinctive insignia featuring a richly decorated star.
