Astonishing relief with golden champagne tones shimmering across the gunmetal surfaces. Pope Leo XII was elected Pope in September 1823 and reigned just six years. The chapel monument portrayed on the reverse,, originally proposed in 1817 prior to election, was erected within the cave (as engraved on the medal) and completed in 1827. Ex.
