Naples & Sicily. Joachim Murat silver "Return from Russian Campaign" Medal 1813-Dated MS63 NGC, Julius-2741, Bramsen-1296. 43mm. Celebrating Joachim Murat's return to Naples after the Russian campaign in 1813. IOAKIMVS NAPOLEO VTR SICIL REX Bust of Joachim right // REDITVS AVGVSTI Murat on horseback with Victory flying overhead with wreath of peace; OPQ NEAPOLITANVS / OPTIMO PRINCIPI / A MDCCCXIII in exergue. An aesthetically refined representative and despite its status as a slightly later restrike, any of this type are difficult to come by. Struck with exacting precision as to impart incredibly detailed high reliefs, while the low-lying recesses glisten with cerulean silhouettes. This example is a somewhat later French striking from copy dies as it is missing the diagnostic die failures (severe across the obverse portrait) of the very rare original issue and is marked "Argent" on the edge. Very collectible due to near impossibility of acquiring a silver original. Ex. Eric P.
