Republic Hsu Shih-chang Specimen "Pavilion" Medallic Dollar Year 10 (1921) AU Details (Cleaned) PCGS, Tientsin mint, L&M-957, Kann-676a, WS-0103. Plain edge, without lower legend on reverse variety. The scarcer variety of this design that we have witnessed just a handful of times in the last two decades, distinguished by the absence of legends in the lower register of the reverse and its plain edge. Were it not for the cleaning, this piece would have undoubtedly been evaluated in the upper AU tier, retaining much more highpoint detail to the bust and Peking Union Medical College "pavilion" motifs than either of the AU55 examples we've sold over the last two years. A warm sepia retone grips the the peripheries, adding some character to the flan. A lot that will surely be given the attention it is due for its underlying quality and rarity.
