Description

James IV (1488-1513) gold Unicorn ND AU Details (Cleaning) PCGS, Edinburgh mint, Cross pattée mm, KM-MB6.1, S-5317, Burns-8. 3.77gm. + IΛCOBVS : DЄI • GRΛCIΛ : RЄX : SCOTTORV, unicorn left supporting royal arms, a crown of five lis around its neck / + ЄXVRGΛT ? DЄVS ? DISSIPЄnT ? IIMICI ? ЄI, rayed star over cross fleurée. An appealing example of this classic rarity, with sharp remaining details brightened somewhat by a past cleaning. Typically crude, there is a clear double-strike apparent, but the primary devices are quite clear. Highly desirable and rare. HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
