Sardinia. Vittorio Emanuele II 5 Lire 1851 (Eagle)-B MS64+ NGC, Turin mint, KM144.1, Dav-137. With fewer than 50,000 struck in 1851, the eagle variety is far scarcer than the anchor variety, a fact that is also reflected in the census data at NGC. This single, straight-graded eagle type is a spectacular representative, with intense clarity of the devices, a centered strike, and rims that contain hardly a trace of contact. Streaked toning on the reverse, likely from freshly polished dies, adds intrigue to this visually stunning piece. Collectors of this series are unlikely to encounter a better opportunity for this difficult year and mint mark anytime soon. HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
