George IV gold Mint Error - Obverse Die Cap 1/2 Sovereign 1824 MS64 NGC, KM689, S-3803, Marsh-405. 3.96gm. An exceedingly rare mint error, brought about by the coin getting stuck to the obverse die and being struck multiple times. The end result on the obverse is nothing short of spectacular, from the high-wire rims to the Prooflike, flashy open expanses and the extraordinarily bold portrait of the King. The reverse faces up shimmery and slightly wavy, presumably due to this coin performing as a die to strike one or several brockages. A beautiful and intriguing, possibly unique piece with an impeccable pedigree, and a must-have for the elite collection of British gold rarities. Ex. Eliasberg Collection; John H.
